Care must be taken when using essential oils. Essential oils must be diluted before use. 1 drop of essential oil to 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil like sweet almond oil for massage. 3 to 5 drops of essential oil to a bathtub full of water for a aromatic bath

Essential oils used in massage should be well diluted. A maximum of 3 drops of essential oil in 5 ml of a plain lotion or a bland oil for grown ups, or 1 drop of essential oil in 5 ml of plain lotion/plain oil for kids.

Essential oil for children would have to be diluted even further. 1 drop of essential oil to 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of cream, lotion or carrier oil is enough.

Essential oil in massage has to be diluted to 2% or 3%. That means 2 or 3 drops of essential oil for every 5ml (1 teaspoon) of cream, lotion or carrier oil.

Hydrolats or hydrosols contain trace amounts of the essential oil of the plant, herb or flower distilled to create the essential oil.
